Nestor Agar HANSARD I, b. 1 Sep 1802 in Bristol, England; Chr 18 Aug 1814 in St Mary's Redcliffe, Bristol; Occupation Plumber, Agriculturalist. He married Harriet COOZE, married 21 Sep 1824 in St Martin in the Fields, Westminster London; b. 26 Dec 1805 in Bath, Somerset; Chr 20 Apr 1807 in Independent, Charmount, Dorset (daughter of Joseph COOZE and Elizabeth HATTEN) occupation Housekeeper; d. 5 Oct 1890 in Burwood, Sydney; buried: 7 Oct 1890 in Enfield, CofE Cemetery, Sydney. Nestor died 2 June 1873 in Bathurst (wills p4298/3) (3162/1873 death). Lived initially in St Pancras, then for some time at Thames Street, Sunbury. The ship Susan left Plymouth on 12 December 1840, making the voyage in 124 days. Arrived in Aust in ship 'Susan' (575 tons, 248 souls) on 25/3/1841 . On embarcation (1/9/1840) good health, protestant, read &. write, acted as Medical Orderly on 'Susan' thus obtaining better accom. (His father was a Surgeon) Refs signed by Sir WH Cooze &. James Augustus St John (Brother-in-law). He gave his occupation as plumber and glazier, also an agriculturalist by trade. Bounty money given by Govt. to sponsor was 19 pounds for parents, 10 pounds each for Fanny & Jane, & 5 pounds each for Eliza & Ellen. 1851 Gold discovered in Bathurst - huge influx of pop. - Nestor made money by obtaining liquor licence & buying properties. The Bathurst Directory of 1862 lists him as Howick Street, painter and glazier. Declared Bankrupt in 1864, Insolvency Index, Feb 25 1864, Bathurst. 1873 Directory lists him at Bentinck Street. Bathurst Times. 8th February 1873 announces his funeral. The friends of the late Mr Nestor Hansard are respectfully invited to attend his funeral to move from his late residence, Russell Street tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon at half past 2 o'clock. Sebastian Hodge, Undertaker, Bentinck. Street, Bathurst. Howcever, estate at death yielded only 20 pounds. Copy of will is in file. Cause of death - fatty degeneration of heart. Married in St Martin in the Fields, (half of Buckingham Palace is in this parish). Harriet: Arrived in Aust 25/3/1841 in ship 'Susan'. On embarcation listed as good health. Protestant


Nestor, Harriet and family sailed on the ship "Susan" from Plymouth on 12 Dec 1840, Captain Henry Neatby. Arrived Botany Bay 25 Mar 1841 after 103 days. There was a murder on board! The perpetrator was judged in R. v. Tabee (1841) NSWSupC 37 (13 April 1841) and was sentenced to death.
