[edit] How do I navigate around the site?
[edit] Wiki
- The title bar contains navigation icons - from left to right:
- Arnold Safroni Middleton's image takes you to the list of Works by all authours
- The site title will take you to the home page (Main Page in Mediawiki parlance).
- The tree icon to the left of the envelope will take you to Charles Sharp Middleton's Family Tree
- The envelope icon takes you to the mailing list sign-up page
- Clicking on the white "I" icon in the title bar will take you to the Index of people.
[edit] Family Tree
- Clicking on Family Tree anywhere will take you to that person's visual tree.
- Clicking on a photograph in the visual tree will zoom the tree in on that person, as will clicking on their name.
- Clicking on [W] takes you to the wiki page for that person.
- All pages have a link to the visual tree and vice versa.
[edit] Some pages aren't being rendered properly
- Are you using an older version of Internet Explorer (IE)? This site makes extensive use of something called Cascading Style Sheets, an IETF standard that Microsoft has chosen to ignore until market forces forced it to do so. You might consider upgrading to IE9 (IE8 is rumored to work), or switching to Firefox, Opera, or any of the other free browsers that are displacing the somewhat antiquated IE.
[edit] How do I become an editor?
- You must have an account to edit the Wiki. To request one, send an email to any of the editors.
- Why not subscribe to our mailing list by mail or online?
[edit] What technology does the site use?
- This is documented in the Attributions page, but in summary:
- The wiki uses the same software as Wikipedia for the wiki.
- The Family Tree Generator is written in Perl.
- Mostly Perl scripts are used as glue - see the Zoo for a complete list of technologies used.
[edit] What Mediawiki Templates are used?
- See the Templates page for a list. Documentation on the Mediawiki extensions is listed there too.
- To use local macros, copy and paste the templates from the adding a new person page
[edit] How up to date is the visual tree?
- The tree is updated daily - see Help:Backups
[edit] Is it hard to edit a Wiki?
- Please have a look at our help pages, and also at the Simple English Wikipedia help, which is quite extensive and easy to follow.
[edit] Attributions
- The Attributions page acknowledges the work of all those that make this site possible.
