Mary Swain married,Nov 24, 1795, Lyme Regis, William Hook(e), widower , b. Feb 13, 1770, son of Edward Hooke and Mary, née North ,who married Oct 2, 1761, Lyme Regis. There were four other children, Phoebe, 1762, Thomas,1864, John, 1767 and Ann,1777-1779. William Hooke, a Grocer, had first married Elizabeth `Taylor, Jan 3, 1790, Lyme. William and Mary had three children, Jane, b. 1796, John Swain Hooke, b. Dec 18,1797, later Mayor of Lyme, and Thomas Hooke, b. Jul 12,1800, a watchmaker. The two brothers, John and Thomas, were both baptised as adults, Dec 5, 1822. Jane married her first cousin John Swain, Dec 15, 1817, as John’s father, Joseph Swain, was brother of Mary Hooke, née Swain. John Swain Hooke and his wife Mary Ann, née England, had eleven children, one of whom died an infant: the family emigrated to Australia in 1855
