Martha Smallwood was the dau. of Joseph Smallwood and Betty, née Mumford,who were married on Jul 28, 1744. Martha must have been born about 1745, as she would only have been 17 at her marriage in Jan 1763..

The Will of Martha Swain, of 1818, has greatly extended the Swain family of Lyme Regis, and their in-laws.

I, Martha Swain, of Lyme Regis in the county of Dorset, widow, do make and publish my last Will and Testament, in manner following, that is to say: FIRST, I give and devise all and singular, my Lands, Tenements and Heriditaments, whatsoever and wheresoever unto my sons and daughters, Joseph Swain, Thomas Swain,Martha, wife of John Lock, Elizabeth wife of Samuel Scriven Mary, the wife of William Hook, Nancy the wife of James ......, Hannah Swain, Amelia Swain and Susan Swain, their heirs or assigns,for ever, equally, to be divided between them, Share and Share alike, to take as Tenants in common, and not as Joint tenants, AND, as concerning all,and singular my Goods, Chattels, Monies,personal Estate and Effects whatsoever and wherever, I give bequeath to my said sons and daughters Joseph Swain, Thomas Swain, Martha, wife of JohnLock, Elizabeth wife of Samuel Scriven ,Mary the wife of William Hook, Nancy the wife of James ......, Hannah Swain,Amelia Swain and Susan Swain,equally to be divided between them, Share and Share alike, as tenants in common, and I hereby nominate them and appoint them, my said sons and daughters Joseph Swain, Thomas Swain, Martha, wife of JohnLock, Elizabeth wife of Samuel Scriven ,Mary the wife of William Hook, Nancy the wife of James ......, Hannah Swain, Amelia Swain and Susan Swain, joint Executors and Executrixes of this my last Will and Testament.
