The Runnier family came from France, and the French pronunciation changed to Runyer and then to Runyard. So John Runyard, as John Runnier, married Betty (Elizabeth)Newman, Piddlehinton, Dorset ,Oct 11, 1726.They had four children;who were apparently christened Runyard. The IGI is not very helpful, apart from the marriage, and the Piddlehinton clinches it. There were Runniers in Piddlehinton earlier in the 18th C. Betty Jnr,s bapt. which clearly makes her the daughter of John Runyard and Betty. C004002. And of course in Piddlehinton.

Children of John Runnier and Betty Newman. Baptisms at Piddlehinton.
Ann. 1726
Betty,Roberts née Runyard Jul 21, 1734
John,ca 1736
Thomas, ca1740
Ann's exact bapt is shown, as Feb 26,1729, daughter of John Runnier and Betty, at Piddlehinton, Thomas' bapt, Jul 13,1740, as RUNNIER, and also John Runnier, July 18,1736.So only Betty was bapt as Runyard: the remainder as Runnier. All baptisms at Piddlehinton.
