[edit] Renaming Pages

Moving a page in Mediawiki always creates a redirect page so that any other pages that link to the old page will automatically be redirected to the new one. Removing this redirect page requires a number of steps because you should check to make sure that no pages have links to the old name before you delete it.
  1. Open the page you want to rename
  2. Click on Move this page
  3. Enter the new name in the dialog box and press the Move page button
  4. Get back to the new page (you can click on the old or the new name in the confirmation page)
  5. Click on What links here (under Context)
  6. One of the items in the list will be the old name flagged as redirect
  7. There will probably be pages listed as children of the old page. If there are any which don't say inclusion, click on them[1] and edit them to change the reference from the old page to the new one
  8. Once the only children of the redirect link (i.e., the old page) are flagged as inclusion, click on the link to the old page
  9. The old page now will be displayed with an arrow pointing to the name of the new one. If you like, you can double check by clicking on What links here again to make sure no pages point to this one. Now you can delete this page and you are done.
  1. Suggestion - right-click and use open in new tab
