Biography

Mike Middleton discovered the following paragraph in chapter xx of ‘A Vagabond’s Odyssey’ by George (Arnold Safroni) Middleton.

‘Before I left Bombay I went to see my little brother’s grave, Gerald Massey S. Middleton. He was buried at Colabba Point, and I discovered his grave at last. A tamarisk tree was growing on it and a few strange flowers. I felt the kinship of that little grave in a strange land; the earth did not hide from imagination’s eye the little dust beneath, which would have been my big brother if he had lived.’

A search was made at the Family Records Centre in Myddleton St. London but no birth or death entries were discovered in the records. The records are not complete anyway. Charles and Amy spent about five years in India; Charles worked on the Times of India. At this period they produced children at regular intervals so we can assume they had one or even two offspring whilst there.
