SourceA shoemaker, Gelly IV was chrNov 28,1749. He married (i) Elizabeth David, Dec 27, 1770,Laugharne, by whom he had two daughters, Charlotte I..O ct 1, 1771- 1774. Charlotte II, Jul 10, 1775. Elizabeth died 1776, and Gelly IV married (ii) Rachel William,Jan 29,1788, with children, Elizabeth Oct 19. 1788, and James.Sep. 24, 1795., who became James Augustus St John on his marriage. Gelly IV died, Jun 23, 1802., bur. Jun 25.
His marriage certificate (220 years old as of ca May 2008) is in amazing condition, albeit hard to read. It says
- Banns of marriage between Gelly John and Rachel William were published on several Sundays lately past. - Gelly John of this Parish, shoemaker, and Rachel William of this Parish were married in this Church by Banns, this twwentyninth day of January, 1788, by me, Walt: Davies, Curate. This marriage was solemnised between Us. signed by Gelly John and The mark of Rachel William.
