SourceAt her marriage her father is shown a Samuel Gussel Gilley, baker.
The first trace found of the Reader family comes from the 1841 census, for Tower Hamlets, Mddx, where the family has conveniently ignored the instructions, and given their ages, without rounding down. Frederick Reader ,aged 73, was born in Mddx, about 1767, and died Mar Q., 1851, Poplar, aged 83. The Head of the household, aged 47, at 17, Crisp St, Tower Hamlets, was George Reader Senior, Builder, presumed to be Fredericks son. He was born ca 1793, married in Poplar, and died, aged 63, Poplar, in Mar Q.,1857, There was a son, aged 23, George Reader Junior, carpenter. As the 1851 census shows George as 31 in 1851, Head of the household, in Crisp St., and aged 41 in 1861, his exact date of birth is uncertain, but as he died in Dec Q.1875, aged 56, it is assumed that he was born about 1819. He married, firtly, Elizabeth Stanton Gilley, Mar 7, 1841, Stepney. They had 3 children:
- Elizabeth R. Reader, born Jun Q.,1842, Middx.
- Mary Ann Reader, born Jun Q., 1844, Ongar.
- George Reader, (Minimus), born Jun Q., 1846, Ongar
The censuses showed the two latter as born in Stanford Rivers, Essex, which is right alongside Chipping Ongar. Elizabeth, their mother, died in Jun Q., 1854.
. George, Junior married, secondly, Sarah Warn,Mar Q, 1860, Bethnal Green. In 1871,he, aged 51, Builder, is shown with his wife, Sarah, 38, born Portsmouth, Hampshire, and 3 children. A fourth child, William, was born in Mar Q., 1861, and died Mar Q., 1871. The surviving children were as follows:
- Louisa Reader, born Jun Q.,1864, Poplar
- Alfred J. Reader, born Jun Q., 1866, Poplar
- Ada Hardor Reader, DecQ., 1869, Poplar
The household also included William Warn, nephew, 18, Apprentice to Builder.
George Reader (Minimus) married Annie Blaker,Jun Q., 1868, Poplar. In 1871, carpenter, aged 24 they were sharing the house at Bromley St Leonard, Mddx, with his father and mother and their family. He is shown as Head of a household separately, with his wife, Annie, 23, born Blackwall, Mddx.,.and a daughter, Annie Bowers, born Mar Q., 1870, Bromley, Mddx.
In 1881, Sarah, as a widow,49, living at 133,Harvey St., Tower Hamlets, is described as a Chandlers shopkeeper, 49, with Louisa, 16, and a lodger, John Warn, 22, wheelwright, born Wapping, presumably a nephew. John William Warn married Caroline Mary Seaman, June Q., 1882, St Georges East.. By 1891, Sarah Reader, still in Bromley, had a Newsagent and Tobacconists shop, with Louisa,26, still unmarried..Sarah died Mar Q., 1902, aged 70.
