David was a member of one of the last groups of apprentices to be trained at H M Dockyard Chatham before its closure on 31st of March 1984. In his younger days he was a keen soccer player. Since his retirement from playing he has coached and managed a successful boys team, and was voted ‘Manager of the Year’ on four successive occasions.
